Bulging Discs

"Can you help with bulging discs?"  This is one of the most common questions we hear at health fairs.  The answer is YES.

Sometimes it seems patients' cases come in droves.  Recently we've had a wave of new patients with bulging discs in their low back.  In some cases we already know they have bulging discs through MRI's ordered by their family doctor.  In other cases, Dr. Wright has recommended an MRI upon suspicion of a bulging disc (x-rays only show the condition of the spine, not the discs).

Symptoms associated with a bulging disc are similar to symptoms associated with low back pain and sciatica:  pain in the low back, pain radiating down the legs, numbness and tingling in the legs, muscle weakness, and even problems going to the bathroom.

Unfortunately, most  medical doctors will recommend physical therapy, medication and/or pain injections for disc bulges, with surgery being the last resort.  They simply do not know a certain chiropractic technique can help with bulging discs-not only providing pain relief to the patient, but also restoring the bulge to near-normal height.  Medication and physical therapy do not fix the bulging disc, and provide only temporary, if any, relief from pain.

Dr. Wright is trained in a technique called Flexion-Distraction (also known as "Cox").  This technique "pumps" up the disc, taking pressure off the nerves being affected and providing relief from pain.  With great success using this technique, we highly recommend chiropractic before medications, physical therapy and, of course, surgery.

If you or someone you know suffers from a bulging disc, tell them about chiropractic and have them call our office at 364-4448!
